LOCATION
With its impressive view of the bay of Valparaiso, CasaBlu Hotel is located in the heart of Cerro Alegre, a historical area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003.
In the middle of the nineteenth century, around a hundred mostly English and German immigrants - but also some Croats, Yugoslavians, Italians and French - settled in Cerro Alegre, creating a sophisticated and cosmopolitan neighborhood that, from the very beginning, stood out among Valparaiso’s architecture and urban development and adapted stylishly and ingeniously to the chaos of its hills.
After the earthquake and widespread flooding that affected the low-lying part of the city at the beginning of the 1900s, several European families built two and three-story houses here with beautiful and colorful gardens, giving the hill its name.
Its stone-paved alleys, look-outs, elevators and long, winding staircases and - above all - its shape as an enormous enclave circling the Pacific Ocean meant it was the ideal setting for an explosion of culture and bohemia.
